Honoring Memory and Celebrating Life: Join the Día de Muertos Celebration at First Unitarian Church of Dallas
Mark your calendars for a vibrant and heartfelt community gathering!
On Saturday, November 1, 2025, the First Unitarian Church of Dallas will open its doors for a joyous and moving Día de Muertos Potluck, Art Display, & Celebration from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Channing Social Hall and Courtyard.
Hosted by the “Spiritual: Earth Centered Spirituality” group, this annual event is a beautiful opportunity to honor the depth and joy of Día de Muertos while uplifting the beauty of Mexican culture. It’s a reminder that, as the seasons turn, “all that dies is not lost, but transformed.”
What to Expect at the Celebration
This vibrant evening is set to be a true feast for the senses and the soul, celebrating life, memory, and community through various traditions:
- Community Ofrenda & Art Display: The heart of the celebration is the collective art installation. The community is invited to create and bring a mini-ofrenda (altar) in honor of a loved one to add to the beautiful, shared display. This is a powerful way for all to participate in the tradition of remembrance.
- Potluck Dinner: The community potluck is a central part of the evening. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish that reminds them of a loved one who has passed, or to support a local Mexican-owned restaurant by bringing food to share.
- Traditional Mariachi Band: The air will be filled with the joyful and poignant sounds of a live Mariachi band, lifting spirits in both remembrance and celebration.
- Copal Blessings to Ancestors: Experience a beautiful and ancient ceremony led by Amy Martin, where fragrant copal smoke and blessings will be offered around the fire, honoring beloved ancestors and welcoming their presence among the community.
- Crafts for All Ages: Get hands-on and creative! There will be stations for making your own maracas and sugar skull masks, ensuring fun for everyone from the youngest attendees to the young-at-heart.
A “Pay-What-You-Can” Community Event
This gathering is a truly community-supported event. It is a Pay-What-You-Can celebration, and all contributions are deeply appreciated. Donations help cover the cost of the traditional Mariachi musicians and other supplies, helping to ensure this joyful tradition continues to come alive for the community.
Whether you are connected to the Earth Centered Spirituality group, a member of the First Unitarian Church, or someone who is simply curious and wants to learn more about the beautiful traditions of Día de Muertos, you are warmly invited to attend.
We look forward to celebrating life, memory, and community with you!
