You Belong Here. Period.
In a world that often feels like it’s full of “terms and conditions,” finding a place where you can actually take a breath is rare. We’ve all seen the signs that say “All Are Welcome,” only to find out there’s a hidden asterisk or a list of “ifs” and “buts” waiting at the door.
At First Unitarian Church of Dallas, we decided a long time ago to throw away the fine print.
“Come as You Are” is Our DNA
When we say “Come as you are,” we aren’t just trying to fill pews or use a catchy marketing slogan. We’re describing the very soul of our community. We believe that your presence isn’t a project to be managed or a soul to be “fixed”—it’s a gift to be celebrated.
No Hoops. No Asterisks.
We know that many people carry “church baggage”—the feeling of having to hide a part of yourself to fit in. We’re here to tell you that you can leave that baggage at the door.
- LGBTQIA+? You aren’t just “tolerated” here; you are celebrated, loved, and seen as a vital part of our leadership and life.
- A Seeker, Skeptic, or Believer? Your doubts are as welcome as your convictions. We believe the questions are often more holy than the answers.
- Sunday Best or Favorite Jeans? We care much more about the person wearing the clothes than the label on the back.
- First Timer or Long-Timer? Whether you’re just testing the waters or you’ve been here for decades, you are an equal part of this fabric.
A Radical Welcome
What does “radical welcome” actually mean? It means we are rooted in love and justice. It means we recognize that the world is often exclusionary, so we have to be intentionally inclusionary.
There are no hoops to jump through. No creed you have to memorize. No secret handshake. There is just a community of people trying their best to live with kindness, work for a fairer world, and support one another through the messy, beautiful reality of being human.
