Carrying the Light Forward: Summer Solstice Potluck & Celebration

Carrying the Light Forward: Summer Solstice Potluck & Celebration

The sun is high, the days are long, and the earth is in its full, radiant bloom. While the official astronomical Summer Solstice lands on June 21st, the spirit of the season is something to be savored. That’s why we are keeping the vibrant energy alive and gathering a few days later to celebrate as a community!

Join us on Saturday, June 27th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas for our Summer Solstice Potluck & Celebration. It’s a time to honor the longest days of the year, reflect on the turning of the seasons, and ground ourselves in the cycles that connect us all.

Here is a glimpse of what we have in store for this magical evening:

Feast Together: The Potluck (The Foyer)

We will kick off our gathering indoors in the Foyer with a community potluck. The summer solstice is all about abundance, so we encourage everyone to bring fresh, colorful dishes, refreshing drinks, and sweet desserts to share. Think seasonal fruits, crisp salads, and anything that celebrates the brightness of the season. It’s a wonderful opportunity to break bread, catch up with old friends, and welcome new faces.

Honor the Turning Wheel: The Ritual (Channing Social Hall)

Following the potluck, we will move into Channing Social Hall for the ritual portion of our evening. Together, we will step into a space of reflection and connection through:

  • The Story of the Oak King and the Holly King: At the height of summer, we encounter a powerful paradox. Through this traditional story, we are reminded of the eternal dance between light and shadow, beginnings and endings. Even as we celebrate the peak of the light, the wheel begins its slow turn toward the dark.
  • The Water Ritual: A time for cleansing, intention-setting, and honoring the life-giving element of water during the hottest months of the year.
  • Songs, Chants, and Movement: We will raise our voices and move our bodies together, channeling the joyous, expressive energy of summer.

Whether you have celebrated the solstice for decades or this is your very first time participating in a seasonal ritual, there is a place for you here. Come as you are, bring a dish to share, and help us carry the light forward!
